Fans favourite Eldin Jakopovic faced the media earlier today ahead of manager Marco Silva, both looking back over the last week and ahead to tomorrow’s crucial match against Swansea City at the KCOM Stadium.
First up is Eldin Jakupovic
I’ve been here almost 5 years now, and I never gave up on a starting position, I’m a fighter and know what I can do, I’ve been given the chance to go back in goal, my goal now is to help us stay in the Premier League. I started the season as number 1 as McGregor was injured, but the old manager bought a new goalkeeper in, and things changed. He never said why. But I’ve was given my chance in January.
Marco is more tactical, not as much long ball, I think our football is much better now.
The last game was a really bad result, I wasn’t happy with my performance, I don’t think anybody was. We took the lead & I thought it was possible to take the 3 points. We made mistakes in the wrong moments, and they did good. Focus is now for tomorrow though, the Leicester game is over.
I like to listen to music before games, I need some beats before games, we have a good DJ with Meyler.
11 games left, 33 points to gain, I don’t think it’s possible to win all if the games, and we can pile pressure on Palace and Boro tomorrow.
Step by step, game by game and we’ll try to take maximum points.
I hope we can take the 3 points tomorrow, it’s a massive game, we need the 3 points. We have to be clever & focus from the first second to the last minute. 100% is not enough. Everyone has to give 150%. We started the season good, had good cup runs, despite the problems we’ve had and being one of the favourites to return to the championship.
We have to take the pressure out of our heads, we can play well, we’ve proved it. I know if we keep a clean sheet we can win. We need to keep cool and relax.
My target is to be healthy, no injuries, my family is most important, then football. We want to stay in the Premier League. I want to give everything, now is the time to fight, we have to fight. We’ve done good defence, offence and tactical training this week, we’re prepared.
I think we need 36/37 points to stay in the Premier League, we can take the 3 points, we have to be really clever tomorrow. I expect us to go for 3 points.
I was angry with myself after the Leicester game, but I’m relaxed now, if you’re relaxed you’re going to play better! If you think a lot you’re going to make mistakes.
Next up is Marco Silva
Team news – Curtis is now back training, and will be available for tomorrow’s game.
Tomorrow’s game is must win, after the last result, it’s a really important game for us.
Pressure isn’t just with us, it’s there for other clubs, who might be in a similar position as us, or those chasing places European football next season.
Swansea play good football, they have one good striker who’s scoring well, but we have confidence in our players too and we’re prepared. It’s important to put focus in our squad. We have more home games in the next few weeks which is good to show our quality and take points, but we must improve our away form too.
Anything to help the referee re the introduction of video referees, is good.
We need to play well and give good signals to our fans so they get behind us, as we are stronger with them behind us. We need to control the game, last week we conceded 3 goals for the first time since I arrived, we need to improve our finishing.
