Manchester City pre match press conference
Facing the press ahead of the 3rd match in what’s seemingly proving a key 8 days in City’s Premier League survival hopes, were manager Marco Silva and Wednesday night’s man of the match, Sam Clucas.
It’s different to start to prepare for the next game after a win, but we prepare similarly, concentrating on what we need to do in the next game. Character & team spirit shown is really important, we’re more confident. We didn’t start well in the last 2 games, but we reacted well. Nothing is finished yet though.
I prepare for away games the same as I do for the home games. We now have 2 games away and we need to improve our away form. Harry Maguire has improved over the last three months, but he’s injured now and there’s a chance for another member of the team to come through. Michael and Curtis are both good options for me. I don’t think Harry will be out for long.
I never talk about the numbers, the points we need with my team. I concentrate game by game, step by step.
We face a great team tomorrow with a great coach, we need to be ready and show character in the full 90 minutes. We respect Manchester City as we have every team we play against. We need to be focused and have good organisation. Pep is a very very good manager, with clear ideas in his mind, it’s not the first time I’ve played against him, and he will give us problems as they do everyone. We will try to do our best, but my record against him is ‘not good’.
We have one focus, to remain in the Premier League. Anything regarding contracts, whether mine or the players is secondary at the point in time.
About the loan players he’s brought in, they’re all our players, no matter whether they have a long or short contract with us, they’re all Hull City players, our team, I want them ALL to work hard day by day, and maintain the focus.
Hernandez is fit, Elabdellaoui and Mbokani are still not available.
The boys work very hard, they understand what we need to do, and our team spirit is built on this.
Sam Clucas, Alfred (N’Diaye) and our 2 wingers (Grosicki and Markovic) played well in the week, Sam playing a role that suits him in my opinion.
It’s been a great week, 2 important wins. To pick up maximum points has been brilliant. We saw the last game as a 6 pointer, and we were full of confidence after the West Ham game, and it’s nice to be out of the bottom 3. I don’t know why we are less successful away from home, because we do prepare similarly, and we have played games where we’ve been on top and should’ve won.
We put in a really good performance on Wednesday, to go to Manchester City with 6 points is great, we’re not going to lie down, our confidence is great. We go to try & get something from the game, a few weeks ago we probably looked at the fixture & thought we’re not going to get anything, but not now.
It’s a team game, as long as I’m on the pitch, I don’t care where. To have the team spirit we have, in such a short space of time, is down to the manager. We started the season with a small squad and we knew we had to stick together closely, we have and everyone who’s come to the club since has joined in with that. Every day around the Training Ground, everyone is in good spirits.
