Leicester Pre Match Press Conference
Joining manager Marco Silva this lunchtime was our loanee centre back, Andrea Ranocchia.
Andrea was up first & through his interpreter, was asked initially about the importance of maintaining or closing the gap between us & Leicester this weekend.
We go looking for 3 points, it’s the start of a run of games where we play sides in the relegation zone. They achieved something fantastic last season. It was great to see, but they’re just our opponents on Saturday. Vardy will do a lot of running, he’s very quick in the final third, but we’ve put a plan together to deal with that.
On Harry Maguire – he’s a young guy, but a big guy, he could go on and play for his country. He has the physical qualities and technical ability to do that.
Then Marco arrived.
It’s not good that Dieumerci Mbokani injury is out for 6 weeks, we’ll keep tracking that, but it looks as though Harry Maguire will be available on Saturday, and I do think he will play for his national team. He’s a fantastic example, he still needs to improve, but he has all the skills, I see so many things in him.
I wasn’t surprised by the Leicester result on Monday, they have good players. They’ve played well against other top teams. Their performance earlier this week won’t change how we set ourselves up, neither will Ranieri’s sacking. I expect to see their motivation against us too, the same as they showed on a Monday. It’s important we respect Leicester, and I expect a very balanced game, it’s important we are strong.
It would’ve been better if we’d won our last game at home, but we gained a point, we’ve continued to train hard.
He wouldn’t put a number on how many points we need to accumulate to stay in the league, tricky to know.
Markovic and Clucas both return to the squad this week, but Evandro is still out.
We always need to improve, we do our analysis in the game and pass it past our players in the week.
We have made progress – 8 points in 6 games. The squad as a whole is important, not individual players, and what they show in games.
