My wife Heather and I came to Hull from Toronto, Canada to see our first live in-person Tigers’ match (v Reading) on the 27th of August 2011. We arrived in Hull via train. I was very impressed with the city and what it had to offer. The Humber River Bridge is a beautiful sight and we had the chance to try some great local fish and chips. The folks at the KC were so kind and gave us a brilliant stadium tour, and we had a great time obtaining club merchandise at the Tiger Leisure store. On game day we were driven to the stadium by my friend Graham Newdick (OSC Branch and Fans Liaison Director) and his friend Susan Hart. I had been in contact with Graham by e-mail prior to our visit and he generously offered to pick us up on game day. It was quite an experience approaching the KC Stadium to see the grounds awash in a sea of black and amber shirts. You could feel the excitement! Before kick off we headed to the OSC’s bar for a few pints. Here I got to meet other members of OSC. We talked about football and how I became a Hull City fan living in Canada. I told them “I am a Tigers fan because the players always work hard, play attractive football and have awesome fans. The people at the OSC bar made us feel like we belonged. During the game we sat in the west stands where we had a great view of the field and the stadium. The game itself was like the weather that day; it gave us a little bit of everything and ended perfectly with Robbie Brady scoring the wining goal. After the game we said our good byes to our new friends and started our trip back to Canada with an experience we would not forget. We look forward to our next visit Hull to watch City play; maybe it will be at Wembley! Up the Tigers!

Tony Conway (Chairman) and Bernard Noble (Press Officer) of the Hull City Official Supporters Club (HCOSC) meet Dr Assem Allam in his offices at Melton last week.

The meeting was especially arranged to discuss how we, the HCOSC, can help Dr Allam in his long term plans for the future of Hull City AFC and other important issues including the end of season fans events. The meeting was extremely constructive and fruitful to both parties and details will be given when a strategy for the action points has been agreed. After the meeting, the Chairman said, “the Football Club is in safe hands and I am confident we can all look forward to a successful future both on and off the field”.

The Football Supporters’ Federation’s (FSF) safe standing roadshow proved to be extremely popular on the occasion of its visit to the KC Stadium prior to the Bristol City home match.

Jon Darch of the FSF was kept busy throughout the pre-match period explaining the technology of the German-style “Rail Seats” which can be seen in use on the Continent.

Chris Cooper, a member of the FSF’s safe standing campaign group, conducted an interview survey and although the detailed results are awaited it was evident that there was overwhelming support for the introduction of safe standing sections in the KC Stadium. Even supporters who prefer to sit were in favour as the introduction of safe standing would ensure that those in seats would have an uninterrupted view of their football.

Prior to arriving in Hull the roadshow had toured Scotland and it may be that Glasgow Celtic in the SPL will be the lead club to install rail seats. It is also anticipated that a Barclay’s Premier League club will shortly approach the Government for permission to trial safe standing.

More information on safe standing can be seen on the Football Supporters’ Federation’s web site.

On Tuesday, 7th February, the Hornsea Branch of the Hull City Official Supporters Club (HCOSC) presented an evening at the Victoria in Hornsea with Guest Speaker, FA Referee Carl Boyeson.

Unfortunately the attendance levels were down, much of it blamed on the weather but for the members who braved the elements they were treated to over an hour of an excellent and well prepared presentation by Carl, who spoke about many experiences through his career, from his day job to being called upon as an Official in the Champions League and his thoughts on goal line technology. Carl also brought and demonstrated the equipment issued to Referees, including the four-way communication kit to the line flags with bleepers in them which are transmitted to the referee. Carl drew the raffle and bus-stop during the refreshment break and obliged with photos and autographs. Carl was presented with a bottle of Port as a thank you by the Committee. During the course of the evening, a specially commissioned card was handed around the room for the audience to write well-wishing messages to Dean Windass and has been forwarded on to Deano at The Sporting Chance Clinic where he is being treated.

Also announced on the evening was that the Hornsea Branch (HSOSC) Player of the Year Award will be named ‘The Josh Fell Memorial Trophy’ in honour and memory of the tragic loss of a 15 year old supporter and Hornsea resident who sadly passed away last year with a cardiac arrest. Hornsea OSC Branch Member, Neil Wilcock, is running in the 2012 Flora London Marathon in April and will be seeking sponsorship in aid of CRY, the nominated Charity of Josh’s parents. If you would like to sponsor Neil, please contact Paul Abrahams, Vice-Chair, on 07774 292601 or message us on Facebook – ‘Hull City Official Supporters Club – Hornsea Branch’.

The next Branch meeting due to be held on 27th March has now been postponed due to the Tigers’ away game at Portsmouth being re-scheduled for that evening.

The Hull City Official Supporters Club (HCOSC) is pleased to extend an invitation to view the Football Supporter’s Federation’s “Safe Standing Roadshow” which is visiting the Kingston Communications Stadium on Saturday,
11th February 2012 from 1130am until 3pm.

There is a growing issue within the Football League Championship and Football Association Premier League grounds of fans wishing to stand to watch their football. Attempts to stop this have failed. Standing behind low-backed plastic seating is regarded as unsafe standing. The roadshow is a section of the safe standing “Rail Seats” widely used in Germany’s Bundesliga grounds.
“Rail Seats” offer choice; enhanced enjoyment, not only for those wishing to stand, but also ensures that those wishing to sit have an uninterupted view; they offer improved social inclusion plus increased crowd safety and control.

I look forward to welcoming you and to explaining the benefits of Safe Standing. However, if you are unable to attend but would like more information please let me know.

Kind regards,

Christopher Smith
Hull City Official Supporters Club

The Withernsea & District Branch of the Hull City Official Supporters club held a social evening on Monday 30th January 2012 at the Withernsea Golf Club, home of the Withernsea & District Branch OSC.

The main event of the evening was guest speaker ex Tigers player & Hull City legend Justin Whittle. Justin initially gave a brief opening introduction on how his career progressed after serving in the armed forces until an age of 24 prior to becoming a professional footballer.

Justin signed for Hull City from Stoke in November 1998, making 193 appearances for the Tigers during his career at the club. The well attended audience where enthralled & entertained by tales of some of the exploits & experiences of the 1998 /1999 memorable great escape season, when it appeared that Hull City where doomed to relegation to non-league football, but through camaraderie, spirit and determination throughout the squad, Hull City retained its place in the Football League against all odds. Throughout the evening Tiger’s fan’s both young & old participated in a question & answer session from the floor. Following this session Justin signed autographs and posed for photographs with the many fans who will always remember Justin along with other members of the 1998 / 1999 squad & what they achieved for Hull City football Club. The memorable evening was concluded by the drawing of the winning raffle tickets by the Ex Tigers guest who then mingled with the audience to further reminisce of days gone by.
