Dean Windass Evening At Withernsea
The Withernsea & District Branch of the Hull City Official Supporters club held a Charity fund raising social evening on Monday 5th December 2011 at the Withernsea Golf Club, venue of the Withernsea & District Branch OSC.
The main event of the evening was guest Ex Hull City Striker & local Tigers legend Dean Windass,
The Board of Directors of the Hull City Official Supporters Club earlier this year made a bid for Dean’s Wembley play off medal and although unsuccessful, where very pleased that it was purchased by Mr. Assem Allam the Hull City club owner, ensuring the medal will stay with the Club as it rightly should.
However, the HCOSC Directors agreed that it would still support Dean in any way possible in his venture to raise money for the Cancer Ward at Castle Hill Hospital, Cottingham. The HCOSC Board hope to raise as much money as possible through local branch functions but any shortfall will be made up by the HCOSC and will guarantee that the hospital will receive at least £2,500.
Dean initially gave a brief opening introduction of his playing career, and how he became a Tigers player for a second spell at the club where eventually he finished his professional playing days at the top level. The well attended audience where entertained with tales of some of the exploits & experiences throughout Deans playing career, however most of those who attended reminisced with Dean throughout the evening of the events on the 24th May 2008, a date that Tigers supporters will never forget, when Dean scored the only goal at Wembley stadium against Bristol City in the Championship playoff final, promoting Hull City to the Premier league for the first time in their 104 year history.
Fundraising throughout the evening consisted of the selling of signed photographs of Dean. A grand raffle was held many prizes being donated by local people & businesses. Generosity was shown by some of the audience who gave cash donations. One of the highlights of the fund raising evening was the auction of a signed current season Hull City shirt donated by the HCOSC along with other football memorabilia items.
Following the Q & A session and fund raising auction a presentation was made to Dean by Withernsea & District branch OSC Chairman Stuart Woodruff, on behalf of the HCOSC main board of directors of a photograph album featuring photographic memories of the winning Wembley final & celebrations.
To conclude Deans visit to Withernsea he posed for photographs and signed autographs with the many fans who attended & who will always remember the goal scoring feats of the Ex Tiger & what it achieved for Hull City football Club.
Prior to the evenings event on Monday 3rd October 2011, a group of four local ladies representing the Withernsea & District Branch OSC, under the name “The “A” Team” completed a sponsored 10 Mile walk from Pocklington To Millington in aid of Dean’s charity, raising £140 from the event which was presented on the evening.
The committee would like to thank all those who generously donated towards the evenings function & the audience who dug deep in their pockets to support the charity evening which along with the sponsored walk event helped raise a further £450 for Dean’s charity fund.
The memorable evening which was thoroughly enjoyed by all was concluded by the drawing of the grand raffle winning tickets.
